Predictions for sea level rise over the next century vary from a few feet to several meters. Even a few feet of sea level rise is too much for fragile cliffs and estuaries. Writing for the Voice of San Diego, Rob Davis reports, "Continuing rises in ocean levels could have profound implications in San Diego, where millions have been invested in sand-replenishment projects and where thousands live along the coast.
'Very frankly, I don't think anything can be done about it, except to build seawalls,' said Tim Barnett, a Scripps marine physicist. 'But then what happens to your beaches?'
Barnett said each foot of future rise would penetrate inland by about 100 feet. While that is a more profound problem in low-lying places like south Florida and coastal Louisiana, it would also have significant impacts in coastal San Diego."

San Diego
I live in San Diego, have lived here all my life. I'm 20 years old. When I was a kid, I use to go to the beach constantly, same beach. I then heard from my aunt that San Diego was going to be under water because of the oceans rise in ten years, and that it was a gradual thing. I didn't go to the beach for a while but I figured I'd go and check it out for myself. I figured that the beach would be different, because, apparently it already started to happen. And for all of San Diego to be under water in 10 years, miles and miles of inland underwater, I figured in the 15 years I've been going to that beach, and that in 10 years miles and miles was going to be underwater, that a few feet of sand was sure to be gone... But.. I went to the beach, and it was exactly the same.. I mean, it was high tide at first and that scared me, but sure enough it went back to low tide, and there were the same rocks I'd use to catch crabs on and everything. I don't have charts and I'm not a scientist.. but.. you'd think if -miles- and -miles- of land was soon to be underwater.. that 10 or so feet of beach would be gone by now.. I don't know, when I go to the beach and the beach and tide is now 5 feet of less sand then before.. maybe.. maybe I'll believe that the whole bloody city is going to go under...
