We held our 2nd local organizing meeting in Santa Barbara on Friday. Thanks to everyone who came down to the University Club!
We discussed a variety of issues about this action, locally and beyond.
Locally:
Rosanne Livingston has volunteered to head the working group looking into the right types of paint and other practical matters surrounding the actual painting process. Tom Huston is helping out with this.
Adrianne Davis is helping to gather new supporters from the local environmental community and government.
Keith Clarke and Keith Goodman are looking to put the local lightblueline data up on Google Earth, to show how this works.
Jim Frew will be helping to manage the transition of the data collection effort when the two Keith's head out to the EU in a couple weeks.
Kelley Newmann from the CEC is part of their effort to wean the locale from fossil fuels... this is a perfect companion action to the lightblueline: we are drawing publu attention to the possible, undesirable impacts of human induced climate change, and the CEC is offering the means to stop these human impacts.
So that's really a great connection to foster.
John Perlin offered some other ideas on follow-up local actions, such as increasing the albedo of the urban environment, so that urban spaces do not add to the heating effects.
GLOBALLY:
Durwood Zaelke is working to bring the lightblueline effort to the attention of groups and individuals who might want to bring this action to other locales. Many of the volunteers have ideas about how to promote this nationally and internationally.
Bruce Caron has started the web-portal: lightblueline.org.... SO please sign up and add your own content and blog!
OUR NEXT MEETING is FRIDAY, AUGUST 25, at 2 PM at the University Club downtown.
